אייזיק-אדולף פדר
1943-1887
פדר נולד ב 16 ביולי 1887 באודסה (Odessa) למשפחת סוחרים יהודית. בשנת 1905 הצטרף ל"בונד" (Bund), ובשל פעילותו בארגון נאלץ להימלט מארצו. הוא נסע לברלין ולמד שם אמנות, ובשנים 1909-1908 עבר לז'נבה, שם למד באקדמיה לאמנות. בשנת 1910 הגיע לפאריס, למד ועבד במשך שנתיים באקדמיית ז'ולייאן ובאקדמיה של אנרי מאטיס. פדר נמנה עם אמני "אסכולת פאריס" (Ecole de Paris) שעמה נמנו גם הצייר אמדאו מודיליאני והפסל ז'אק ליפשיץ. בחברתם ובחברת עמיתים נוספים פקד את בית הקפה "רוטונד" (Rotonde) במונפארנס (Montparnasse). בשנת 1912 הציג פדר את יצירותיו ב"סלון הסתיו" (Salon d Automne).
פדר אהב את נופי דרום צרפת, והרבה להנציחם ביצירותיו. בשנת 1926 ביקר בפלסטינה והתרשם מהנופים ומהצבעוניות של הדמויות המזרחיות. בשובו לפאריס הביא עימו ציורים המתארים את העולם החדש והישן – חלוצים צעירים, יהודים קשישים מתפללים, בחורי ישיבה, תימנים, ערבים ובדווים. פדר קנה לעצמו שם בעולם האמנות בפאריס, ומבקרי אמנות חשובים כגוסטאב קאהן גמרו עליו את ההלל. הוא הוזמן לאייר ספרים רבים, ביניהם ספר שירים של המשורר הסימבוליסט ארתור רמבו.
עם פרוץ המלחמה סירב לעזוב את פאריס ופעל לצד אנשי המחתרת. בעקבות הלשנה נעצרו הוא ורעייתו סימה ב-10 ביוני 1942. הוא נכלא בבית הכלא הצרפתי שרש-מידי (Cherche Midi) ולאחר ארבעה חודשים, בספטמבר 1942, הועבר לדראנסי, משם שולח לאושוויץ ב- 13 בדצמבר 1943. בדראנסי רשם האמן דיוקנאות רבים של עמיתיו הכלואים. חלק מהיצירות שנמסרו לאלמנתו, סימה פדר, נתרם על ידה לאוסף "בית לוחמי הגטאות".
